The scarflace has been an iconic part of the Saako identity for over a decade, offering a product concept that combines timeless style with the pragmatic side of design. As the name implies, it wears like a necklace, yet feels like a scarf. Made of spaghetti fabric with a unique mixture of colors, the scarflace feels soft to the touch and adds a bit of casual edge to any outfit.
For the Saako designers, the scarflace became a staple piece in their accessory lineup because it symbolizes their efforts to lessen the environmental impacts of textile production. The raw material is 100% organic cotton that is natural and washable, and derived from leftover fabric scraps that are discarded by big factories. The two visionaries were bold in their mission to find new, creative uses for the industry’s deadstock and reduce wastage in the process.
Inspired by this bold idea of upcycling and repurposing textile leftovers, Saako created the scarflace in a sustainable way. Cut with a polished, feminine aesthetic inspired by the vibrant style that is unique to Barcelona (with over 40 distinct colors can be identified in its designs), each piece is handmade by local women long familiar with the proud traditions of Portuguese and Spanish textiles. This rich history contributes to the scarflace’s tactile and experiential allure.
As a leading player in the textile industry, Saako recognizes the responsibility of meaningfully supporting environmental efforts and leading with actionable examples. The scarflace stands as a symbol of a sustainably produced product that does not compromise on aesthetics or functionality. The scarflace manages to capture important pillars that Saako was founded on: Sustainability, Ethicality, Innovation to name a few. Every scarflace has a story to tell. An important part of Saako’s narrative is the connection forged between the material and the individual who wears it. Let us know what your story has been…
